Inspiring content for younger audiences – Southern Africa TikTok Journalism Masterclass

TikTok Malawi

MISA Malawi, CITE, DW Akademie are collaborating for impactful Journalism Education in Southern Africa.
If younger audiences are getting information on TikTok, how do we make sure they are getting it right?
This was the central question explored during the recent Masterclass Training on TikTok Journalism and educational content for younger audiences.
Mayamiko Kachipande, MISA Malawi Programmes Officer and Media Trainer, was one of the three trainers during the #SouthernAfrica TikTok Journalism Masterclass held in Windhoek, Namibia from 8 to 12 June, 2026. Maya trained alongside Lungile Ngwenya (Centre For Innovation and Technology – CITE, Zimbabwe) and Erika Marzano (DW Akademie, Germany). And MISA Malawi member Anthony Manda of TWR Malawi participated in that Masterclass.
The TikTok Journalism Masterclass attracted journalists, social media content creators and representatives of organisations in the human rights space from Zambia, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Malawi.
The Masterclass equipped participants with practical skills in creating engaging news and educational content for younger audiences on TikTok.
In our continued collaboration for impactful Journalism Education in Southern Africa, MISA Malawi, CITE and DW Akademie have developed and delivered practical training module on TikTok in the Newsroom and advocacy institutions.
