The Malawi Chapter of the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA Malawi) is deeply saddened to learn about the sudden death of Esmie Malisita, who – until her death, was a member of the board of directors at Joy Media Group – the operators of Joy FM radio and Joy TV.
We have learned that Mrs. Malisita, who was also daughter to former State President Dr. Bakili Muluzi and sister to Minister of Lands, Housing and Physical Planning, Atupele Muluzi, died today December 12, 2016 at Chadzunda in Blantyre after being struck by lightning while in her garden together with her friend, Hazel Busile.
Misa-Malawi is shocked with both the death and its heartbreaking cause which have robbed the Malawi media of one of its dedicated and committed members in such a horrific manner.
Misa-Malawi will remember Mrs. Malisita for her untiring support to the chapter and the general media sector in Malawi through, among other things, her active role in matters involving the chapter and media owners, including the campaign for Access to Information (ATI) legislation and many other matters that required the support of media owners and managers.
We convey our sincere condolences to Joy Media Group as well as to the Muluzi and Malisita families on the loss of Mrs. Malisita. Her death is a big loss not only to the company and the believed families but also to Misa-Malawi, the media fraternity and the Malawi nation as a whole.
May her soul rest in peace.
