The Media Institute of Southern Africa – Malawi Chapter (MISA-Malawi) is deeply saddened with the untimely and shocking demise of veteran media guru, Ralph Tenthani who passed on Saturday night, May 16, 2015 at Mlambe Hospital in Blantyre following a road accident.
Until his death, Tenthani was one of the most influential columnists in the country and BBC correspondent. According to close friends and family members, the veteran journalist died due to head injuries.
Tenthani was involved in a car crash at Kam’mwamba in Neno while returning from his home village at Sharpvale in Ntcheu. He was in the company of his brother, two children and a colleague, who all sustained minor injuries and were treated at Mlambe and Queen Elizabeth Central Hospitals.
MISA-Malawi sincerely condoles Tenthani’swife, children and family and the entire media fraternity on the loss of this inspirational and renowned professional.
Tenthani was one of MISA Malawi’s most dedicated members and his demise is a sad day for MISA as an organization and the fraternity as a whole. He once served as a member of the MISA Malawi National Governing Council (NGC) and proved to be an instrumental defender of media freedom and freedom of expression.
Tenthani will not only be remembered by many as a senior journalist and editor, but one of the most respected and inspirational writers in Malawi.
InTenthani’sdeath, Malawi’s media has lost a pillar of media freedom, a prolific writer, a mentor and a friendly colleague.
Tenthani’sburial took place at Agabu Village, Traditional Authority Ganya in Ntcheu on Monday, May 18, 2015.
May the soul of Ralph Tenthani rest in eternal peace..
