Panel Discussion Malawi
9 Feb, 2022
#DefendMediaFreedom

MISA Malawi in collaboration with the British High Commission in Malawi and the Basel Institute on Governance will on Thursday, February 10, 2022, hold a panel discussion on the state of media freedom in Malawi.

The panel discussion will take place at Mtolankhani House in Lilongwe. The discussion in Lilongwe coincides with the Global Conference for Media Freedom which is this year being held in Estonia.

The panel discussion will be under the theme ‘State of Media Freedom in Malawi: Threats and Opportunities for 2022’. Over 40 media practitioners from community and national media outlets and media clubs across the country are expected to attend.

Stakeholders who will be unable to attend physically will be accorded the opportunity to follow the same through a live coverage by Zodiak Radio and livestreaming on Times 360 Malawi and MISA Malawi Facebook pages.

Minister of Information and Digitization Honourable Gospel Kazako and the British High Commissioner to Malawi Mr. David Beer will grace the event.

MISA Malawi hopes that the panel discussion will accord all stakeholders an opportunity to reflect on strides made and challenges that the Malawi media continue to face.

As freedom of expression is a fundamental aspect of media freedom, the panel discussion will also look at whether citizens are able to exercise this constitutionally guaranteed freedom.

It is our expectation that this will not just be a conversation, but one that will lead us into taking remedial action on the challenges.
