Old Mutual backs responsible business journalist award

The new award will be recognising excellent business journalism with a focus on the positive social impact being created by the savings, insurance and the investment sector.

Old Mutual (Malawi) Limited and MISA Malawi would like to announce the introduction of the Old Mutual Responsible Business Journalist of the Year: Print and Electronic.

The new award will be recognising excellent business journalism with a focus on the positive social impact being created by the savings, insurance and the investment sector. The award targets exceptional newspaper, radio, television and online business stories/reports, with each year focussing on specific priority areas.

The initiative is part of Old Mutual’s efforts as a responsible business to provide a platform for journalists to maximise reporting and coverage on pertinent industry issues affecting Malawians at the same simplifying, demystifying, unpacking the issues with the aim of increasing the knowledge the masses have on savings, investment and insurance industry in Malawi. The benefits of such reporting will accrue to the whole finance sector.

This category will be part of the annual MISA Malawi Awards and will run for a period of three years, effective 2021 awards.

In the initial year, which is 2021, Old Mutual aims to provide this award as a catalyst for journalists to focus on “The social and Economic Impact of the Pension Industry in Malawi” to encourage the media to inform and educate Malawians on the role the pension industry plays in an economy.

The Old Mutual Best Business Reporting Award will be part of the Annual MISA Malawi Media Awards that are given out to outstanding journalists during a Gala Dinner organised in May each year as part of World Press Freedom Day Celebrations.

The awards committee will accept entries published or aired between November 1, 2020 and April 30, 2021. Old Mutual will provide preliminary training to all interested participants to make smooth participation in the award. Individuals can only send a maximum of two entries for the award.
