Judgement on phone-in programmes ban to be delivered Friday

MACRA suspended all phone-in programmes on June 7, 2019

MISA Malawi is informing its membership and the general public that the High Court judgement on the ban of phone-in programmes by the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) will be delivered on Friday, May 29, 2020 in Lilongwe.

The Judgement will be delivered at 10:00 am in Justice Charles Mkandawire’s Courtroom.

As you may recall, MACRA suspended all phone-in programmes on June 7, 2019 citing unprofessionalism on the part of broadcasters.

However, MISA Malawi, Times Radio, Zodiak Broadcasting Station and Capital Radio asked for the Court’s declaration that MACRA’s decision violates constitutionally guaranteed freedom of the press and freedom of expression.

The court had earlier granted the applicants an injunction which allowed media houses to resume the phone-in programmes.
