‘We owe it to you’

Christmas card
25 Dec, 2019
We go into 2020 energised and we will carry our mandate more effectively and efficiently

As the New Year approaches MISA Malawi would like to thank partners, members and the general public for making 2019 one of the most successful years for the Chapter since its inception.

MISA Malawi managed to register several milestones including organising the second ever Presidential Debates and fulfilling a long-time vision of owning an office structure and training centre.

On October 30, 2019, MISA Malawi launched Mtolankhani House, the building that accommodates its Secretariat and the MISA Malawi Training Centre in the capital, Lilongwe.

The Chapter also commissioned a study to develop a workable model for the revival and sustainability of a robust media self-regulation system in the country. This includes resuscitation of the Media Council of Malawi (MCM), which spearheads media self-regulation in Malawi. The Council has been inactive for the past 3 years and MISA Malawi is now set to launch the Council on Saturday, December 28.

The achievements of the year would not have been possible without the support of the membership, partners, well-wishers and the general public.

As we conclude 2019, MISA Malawi would like to thank, in a special way, all its paid-up members, media owners and managers and members of the Presidential Debates Taskforce.

The Chapter would also like to thank DW Akademie, Germany’s leading organisation for media development, which played a key role in the establishment of the MISA Malawi Training Centre and office building and the revival of MCM.

We would also like to thank the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA) for supporting the 2019 Presidential and Parliamentary Debates and the Chapter’s Access to Information (ATI) and citizen engagement work. Thanks too to the Open Society Justice Initiative (OSJI) for its financial and technical support on ATI.

Happy Christmas and Prosperous 2020 to all our members, partners and the general public!

We go into 2020 energised and we will carry our mandate more effectively and efficiently.
