MISA Malawi is deeply saddened by the demise of veteran journalist Vales Machila, who passed on Sunday September 30, 2018 in Lilongwe.

The Malawi Chapter of Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA Malawi) is deeply saddened with the shocking demise of veteran journalist Vales Machila who passed on Sunday afternoon, September 30, 2018 at Deayang Hospital in Lilongwe.

According to family members, the veteran journalist suffered a stroke on Monday 24th September 2018.

Machila has served the media fraternity in different capacities including as Editor of Malawi News, Montfort Press and Executive Director of the Media Council Malawi.

Uncle Vales, as he was fondly known by many in the media fraternity, will be remembered as a source of knowledge and experience in the journalism fraternity and the original author of ‘Town Monger,’ in Malawi News which he introduced while working for Blantyre Newspapers Limited, now Times Group.

MISA Malawi joins Malawians in general and the media fraternity in particular, in mourning Machila. He has departed at a time when the media industry in Malawi needed his skills and especially his untiring professional guidance. Being a dedicated member of MISA Malawi, Machila will be remembered for constantly championing access to information, media freedom and freedom of expression. His guidance and fatherly love for MISA has left a very big gap which will take time to be filled.

Our condolences therefore go to Machila’s family, colleagues and admirers. We pray for Gods strength during this difficult moment.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
