NAMISA 2015 Annual Awards: Call for entries

NAMISA Malawi is inviting interested paid up members to submit their published works for the 2015 NAMISA Annual Media Awards.

The National Media Institute of Southern Africa (NAMISA) is inviting interested paid up members to submit their published works for the 2015 NAMISA Annual Media Awards. The awards are given out on May 3 every year as part of the celebrations to mark World Press Freedom Day (WPFD).

The 2015 awards will include 2 new categories to uplift the quality and standards of reporting on Finance and Pediatric and Adolescent HIV, including Prevention and Treatment. The two new awards are sponsored by Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM) and Elizabeth Glacer Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF). The 2 new categories are:

  • The Hennox Mazengera Best Financial Reporting Award: Print and Electronic
  • Best Paediatric and Adolescence HIV Journalists of the Year Award: Print and Electronic

The above categories will be given alongside the following:

a.)   NAMISA/UN Awards

  • Hunger and Poverty
  • Universal Primary Education
  • Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment
  • Child Mortality
  • Maternal Health
  • HIV and AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis
  • Environmental Sustainability
  • Global Partnerships for Development

b.)   NAMISA Traditional Awards

  1. Print and Electronic
  •    Investigative Journalist of the Year: Print and Electronic
  • Business and Economics Journalist of the Year: Print and Electronic
  • Education Journalist of the Year: Print and Electronic
  • Human Rights Journalist of the Year: Print and Electronic
  • Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Journalist of the Year: Print and Electronic
  • Maternal new born Health: Print and Electronic
  • Tourism journalist of the Year Award: Print and Electronic
  • Best Human Resource for Health: Print and Electronic Photojournalist of the Year
  • Best ICT Journalist of the Year Award

2. Combined print and Electronic

  • Sports Journalist of the Year
  • Chichewa Journalist of the Year
  • Photo Journalist of the Year
  • Electronic
  • Best Farm Radio Programme: Electronic

MISA Malawi will also recognize the following categories:

  • Overall winner
  • Life-time achiever
  • Print Media House of the year
  • Electronic Media House of the year
  • Talk show host of the year: Electronic
  • Blogger of the year: Electronic
  • Columnist of the year: Print

All paid up MISA Malawi members will be required to vote/nominate their respective winners under Talk show Host of the Year, Blogger of the Year and Columnist of the year categories and send the same to namisaawards2015@gmail.com on or before March 31, 2015.     Only Malawian talk show hosts, bloggers and columnists are eligible for these awards.

Life Time Achiever and Print and Electronic Media House of the Year will be based on NOMINATIONS from the membership. Individuals and Organizations are free to self-nominate in line with the Rules and Regulations governing the awards in question.

The NAMISA Awards Committee will look for the following attributes:

  • Impact
  • Consistency
  • Courage
  • Investigation
  • Gender awareness
  • Analysis

The Awards Committee will accept entries published between 1st April, 2014 and 31st March, 2015. The deadline for receiving entries is March 31, 2015. An applicant may submit a maximum of two entries per category.
