Airtel donates K3.3 million Kwacha to MISA Malawi

Airtel Malawi made the donation for MISA Malawi's World Press Freedom Day celebrations which take place this year in Mzuzu on May 2.

Airtel Malawi has today handed over a cheque worth K3.3 million to the Media Institute of Southern Africa – Malawi Chapter (MISA Malawi) as its donation towards World Press Freedom Day celebrations which will this year take place in Mzuzu on May 2.

MISA Malawi Chairperson Thom Khanje received the cheque on behalf of the organisation during a ceremony at Airtel Malawi head offices in Lilongwe.

Speaking during the ceremony, Airtel Malawi Public Relations Manager, Edith Tsilizani, said Airtel believes in supporting the media which is key to every society.

She said apart from providing checks and balances, the media is also instrumental in setting the agenda and exerting influence on different indicators that drive the economy of this country.

“We all need to support the growth of the media to enable continued progress in different industrial sectors,” she said.

On his part, Khanje thanked Airtel Malawi for being a true and trusted friend of the media through its support to various initiatives by various media.

He said Airtel Malawi has been providing financial support toward World Press Freedom Day celebrations for the past six years.

Apart from paying the costs of hosting the Gala Night during celebrations, Airtel also sponsors the Business Journalist of the Year Award for both print and electronic media.
